"For me, abstract art can
have a powerful
organic and spiritual presence."
The art of Cynthia Ligeros
incorporates impressionist elements that reveal an inner landscape to
the viewer, an image at once familiar and transcendent. She seeks to
explore our place in a world that we have created, yet which also
creates us.
A classically trained artist, Ligeros spent years painting in a
realistic and representational style. But over time, she found that
abstract images are the most effective way to convey the nuances of
feeling she brings to light about the world. Her paintings always begin
with a single driving emotion. From that, an image develops, inspired
by the colors, shapes and feelings of the environment. Sunsets,
moonscapes, flowers, the changing seasons -- all of these become
sources of inspiration, adding richness and layers of complexity to her
paintings. Even industrial spaces and structures figure prominently in
her work, contrasting the artifice of the cityscape against the
limitless beauty of the sky. As she paints, she redefines the spaces
around us and how they connect to our lives.
Cynthia Ligeros studied under noted contemporary artist Clark Richert
at the Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design. She recently showed
in New York City, and was a finalist in America’s Next Master Artist
Contest. Her art has appeared at the Madden Museum, Denver Botanic
Gardens, the Denver Modernism Show and in magazines, galleries, and
venues across North America.
